BJP general secretary and MP Varun Gandhi is facing a pamphlet campaign against him by a section of partymen in his constituency Pilibhit, from where his mother Maneka Gandhi is likely to contest the 2014
elections.
Sharadpal Singh,a Block Development Committee member in Bisalpur area of Pilibhit, has been distributing the pamphlets for the past 20 days.
Sharadpal,in the pamphlets, accuses Varun and Maneka of misusing MPLAD fund, disturbing party organisation and forcing several leaders to leave the party.
He also alleges Varun and Maneka fielded parallel candidates against BJP nominees in the 2012 Assembly elections and hatched a conspiracy to defeat party candidate Ramsaran Verma who won the election. Verma is MLA from Bisalpur that falls in Pilibhit Lok Sabha constituency.
Rajesh Singh,Varuns representative in Bisalpur, alleged Sharadpal has distributed the pamphlets on the directive of Verma. Verma had contested the Lok Sabha election from Pilibhit in 1999 on Samajwadi Party ticket and had lost to Maneka Gandhi.
Rajesh said he had complained to the police on August 20 against Sharadpal and the owner of Gupta Offset Press that printed the pamphlets.
After our complaint,Verma complained to the police next day, accusing me and four other party workers of giving life threats to him, Rajesh said.
I have distributed the pamphlets because Varun and Maneka did no development work in my village Khandepur despite repeated requests, said Sharadpal. He denied Verma had any role in the matter.
MLA Ramsaran Verma, too, denied allegations of his involvement in the distribution of pamphlets. I am nowhere involved with distribution. However,I did complain against Rajesh and four others for threatening me with dire consequences because I had raised objections on the quality of municipal work done by them as contractors, he said.
The MLA said two sons of Nagarpalika chairman Cheda Lal Jaiswal are contractors in Nagarpalika. I had raised objections to their work, the MLA said.
Incidentally,Nagarpalika chairman, also from BJP,on August 31 moved a notice in the 30-member Nagarpalika house to condemn activities of Verma,an ex-officio member, for causing hindrances in development works by making false complaints against municipal construction works.
