Having burnt fingers with a hate speech,Bharatiya Janata Partys Pilibhit candidate and latest star campaigner Varun Gandhi now watches his words. Addressing a rally in the Aashiana locality of Lucknow on Monday,in support of the party candidate from Mohanlalganj Ranjan Chaudhary,Varun avoided making any controversial comment.
In fact,he said nationalism can be spread by anyone of any religion, and the country will become orphan without nationalism.
These elections are very decisive because they will make it clear whether the representatives of nationalism will win in UP or those who play the politics of caste, Varun said, addressing the rally that saw a poor turnout of barely 100-150 people.
Claiming him to be a secular,Varun commented,I am not against any religion and nationalism can be spread by follower of any religion. But I am against anyone who wants to spread terrorism in the country. And I promise you that I will continue to work against such people and ensure your children safety and respect.
Son of former Congress leader Sanjay Gandhi,Varun also spoke about his resemblance with his father. Wherever I go,people tell me that they see a younger Sanjay Gandhi in me. They also tell me that if he were alive, the country wouldnt have been like this. I havent seen my father as I was barely a few months old when he passed away, but I know that people remember him as a man of his words. And I promise you that you will also say that Varun also keeps his promises, he said, amid slogans of Asli Gandhi Varun Gandhi.
Incidentally,Varun did not make a direct comment on the Congress and Mayawati,UP Chief Minister who has slapped the NSA on him. He,however, said the country was suffering due to spineless leadership.
What should I say about the Congress. When I was young,my mother told me that I should not speak anything against someone who was dying, Varun added.
On Mayawati,he commented,The kind of evil politics she is playing is being seen by everyone. I saw the Kanshiram Memorial on which she has spent Rs 1,800 crore. Had she used this money for people,so many youngsters would have got jobs.
Varuns lighter side was also reflected in the speech. Talking about the deteriorating image of politicians,he took a dig that no one wanted to give their daughter for marriage to a politician. Isiliye toh abhi tak hamari shaadi nahin hui. Koi neta ko apna damaad banana nahi chahta, he said, leaving the audience in splits.
