Uttar Pradesh police will have a team of 51 police personnel including IPS,PPS and the lower-rung officials trained in special tactics for efficient handling of terror operations.
The police officers are undergoing the special training under supervision of experts from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA),Hyderabad,who are camping at Sonbhadra district since September 12.
Mirzapur Range DIG Prabhat Kumar told The Indian Express that a team of experts led by NPA Assistant Director Parveen Bakshi has been giving the rigorous training to the police team including seven IPS,two Additional SPs,15 Deputy SPs and 27 sub-inspectors (S-Is) which will conclude on September 20.
The officials are being given training for rescue operations during a terror attack,jungle warfare,anti-sabotage and handling of the critical situations. The policemen are also being trained in handling of the state-of-the-art weapons like MP-9 and MP-25 guns which are yet to be introduced in the state police.
As part of the jungle warfare training,the team of the policemen were sent to the dense forest of Sonbhadra on Chhattisgarh border with each one of them carrying only 6 litre of water,a few packets of noodles and biscuits and a plastic-sheet to spend over two days. They entered the forest on Thursday and returned on Friday evening,said an NPA official.
Fearing attack from the naxal groups,a company of PAC and 20-member team of Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) commandos was keeping a watch on the movement of the police teams.
Major General VK Dutta of Operation Blue Star,Punjab had also joined the team of experts to share his experience with the trainee police officers,the DIG said.
A Deputy SP posted with Jaunpur police,Anand Kumar and an S-I of UP STF Anil Yadav were sent back after they suffered fractures during the training programme.
