Every detail of commercial and private vehicles registered in Uttar Pradesh will soon be available at the click of mouse. Uttar Pradesh unit of National Informatics Centre (NIC) will soon make details like date of registration, validity, fitness, permit, insurance and vehicle’s owner online through a website,www.vahan.up.nic.in,which has been created for UP Transport Department.

According to NIC officials, the website may see the launch by the end of this month and a decision on it could be taken in a meeting with transport officials scheduled for Monday.

“The website would be launched after its registration and approval from Government of India. Everything is under process but it may take time,” said Sudhir Kumar Srivastava,Transport Commissioner,UP.

“Apart from transport authorities, police and Income Tax officials may also benefit from the website as it would enable them to access all the data related to vehicles. But common man could be able to access only a few of the details,” said Srivastava.

“We have yet not decided which details would be made available to public,” he added.

NIC officials said that the details about the vehicles would be available on the website through State Data Centre of NIC set up in Lucknow where a ‘State Register of Vehicles’ has been made. These data get updated on a daily basis.
