NHRC seeks govt reply on patient deaths

The National Human Rights Commission has asked the Uttar Pradesh government to explain the reports of six deaths in Gorakhpur allegedly due to snapping of oxygen supply by junior doctors following a scuffle with relatives of a patient.

According to reports,following the death of a patient at Baba Raghav Das Medical College in Gorakhpur,an argument broke out between relatives of the patient and some junior doctors,who allegedly thrashed the relatives. When mediapersons tried to record the statement of the patient’s family,the junior doctors allegedly attacked them too. Services in the hospital were paralysed and the junior doctors allegedly stopped the main supply of oxygen,for which six patients died.
