New machine at SGPGI

State’s first SPECT-CT (Single Photon Emission Computerised Tomography) machine,useful in diagnosis of various diseases,was inaugurated at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science on Saturday.

State’s first SPECT-CT (Single Photon Emission Computerised Tomography) machine,useful in diagnosis of various diseases,was inaugurated at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Science on Saturday. The machine will help doctors provide effective treatment,said Dr AK Shukla,Head of department of Nuclear Medicine.

“While a CT Scan tells the structure of bodily organs,SPECT gives detail of the function. The new machine will fuse these two reports together,” he added. The machine will be helpful in the diagnosis of diseases related to brain,heart and kidney.
