In yet another case of suspected honour killing,a 16-year-old girl was hacked to death in the district allegedly by her mother who disapproved of her relationship with a neighbour, the police said in Bhadoi on Tuesday.
Rekha Yadav was hacked to death while she was sleeping outside her house in Nibiha village at the districts Koirana area on the night of July 23,said SP Gyaneshwar Tiwari.
Tiwari said that Rekhas father Brij Lal,who worked as a taxi driver in Mumbai, returned on Monday and told police that the girl has been murdered by Geeta, her mother.
When the police started investigating the case,Geeta told her 15-year-old son that she had killed Rekha, he added. Acting on what Brij Lal and his son told police,Geeta was arrested. The axe used for the murder was also recovered.
Rekha was having an affair with neighbour Kailash Yadav and Geeta had caught them several times in compromising positions, said Tiwari.
Geeta asked Rekha to mend her ways, but the latter continued with her relationship with Kailash,he added.
On July 23,Geeta once again found Rekha in a compromising position with Kailash. She lost her temper and in a bid to save her familys prestige, hacked her daughter to death, said Tiwari.
Confessing that she had committed the murder,Geeta, said she had no remorse for her action.
