Money exchanger kidnapped: Wife

Wife of a money exchanger, Akshay Bharadwaj (30), who went missing two days ago, Monday alleged that that her husband has been kidnapped and the kidnappers have demanded Rs 25 lakh for his release.

Circle officer, Hariparwat area, Ashok Kumar Singh said Shobha recieved a SMS with the demand on Sunday. The message in English was sent from Akshay’s cellphone, he added. Shobha, a resident of Ishwar Nagar locality in Agra, is a teacher in a local private school. She had lodges a missing complaint Saturday, which has now been into a kidnapping case.

The CO said that that sequence of events narrated by Shobha has some loopholes and there is no eyewitness to the incident of kidnapping. Shobha told the police that her husband dropped her at the school Saturday morning and had said that he will come to pick her up in the afternoon.

He, however, did not come and she returned home on a rickshaw. Whens he did not return till late in the night, she tried calling on his cellphone, which came switched off. She later informed the police the same night that her husband is missing.

The police have come to know during investigation that Akshay, who runs money exchange business at Shikohabad market, had borrowed Rs 10 lakh from a local trader but was yet to return the amount. The police have questioned several persons in connection with the case, the CO said.
