A 30-year-old man was beaten to death,allegedly by the brother of a BSP MLA and his associates,in Saharanpur district on Sunday evening over a trivial issue.
The police have arrested three persons,including Kushalpal,elder brother of Chandra Veer Singh,MLA from Sardhana constituency in Meerut district.
The other two arrested persons are Kaloo and Ankit,guards at the farmhouse owned by Kushalpal at Fatehpur Telio village. The farmhouse is located near the dry river bed.
Angry locals blocked the Dehradun-Saharanpur highway to protest the incident. The blockade was lifted in the evening after senior police officials assured strict action against culprits.
“A complaint accusing four persons,including Kushalpal,was filed by the victim’s family. Kushalpal and the chowkidars have been arrested,” said SSP of Saharanpur,Deepak Ratan.
According to the police,the victim,Amrit Pal,went to collect stones from the river side near the farmhouse on Sunday when the two guards came and stopped him.
After heated arguments,the guards and Kushalpal,who had also arrived,allegedly started thrashing Amrit Pal with sticks.
When Amrit Pal fell unconscious,they left the place. Villagers passing by spotted the victim and rushed him to a nearby hospital where he died four hours later.
“Amrit Pal sustained injuries from sticks and thrashing. One injury was from sharp-edged weapon”,said the police.
Later,residents of the village went to the farmhouse,pelted stones and reportedly beat up Kushalpal and others. They dispersed after the police arrived.
In the evening,when doctors declared Amrit Pal dead,villagers blocked the highway and demanded action against the culprits.
When contacted,MLA Chandra Veer Singh,he said ” Kushalpal is my elder brother but we live separately”.
Veer Singh said he had come to know that the guards were involved in the incident. “After the incident,villagers thrashed my brother and the staff present at the farmhouse. They snatched my brother’s revolver,said the MLA.
