A local Samajwadi Party (SP) leader missing since last night was found murdered today in Jigna area of Mirzapur district. The motive behind the murder is yet to be known. Angry over the incident, party workers and locals staged road blockade and damaged around half-a-dozen vehicles.

Mirzapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Suresh Chandra Pandey told The Indian Express that local SP leader Baleshwar Bind, who was also in-charge of Chhianbey assembly committee, had left his house last evening after receiving a phone call. He had told his family members that someone close to him had called him and he will be back in an hour.

However,he did not return since then and his body was recovered from an orchard today morning. He had four stab wounds in his stomach, the SP said. He added that Bind had gone to Lucknow along with local MLA Bhai Lal Kol regarding some party work and had returned last evening.

The party workers and the locals gathered outside Jigna police station and blocked the road. They indulged in brick-batting too and damaged about six vehicles, including a bus and trucks,as the police force remained mute spectators.

Pandey added that the the local MLA and the party’s district president, who were present at the spot, later pacified the protestors.

He said that the police have collected the call details of Bind’s phone and the person who had called him last night has been traced. The police are interrogating the suspects, but a possible reason leading to the murder is yet to be known,he added.
