Meerut MP Arun Govil to distribute 11 lakh Ramayana copies across country
Arun Govil who played Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s iconic Ramayan TV serial said ambitious exercise is aimed “to counter negative thoughts among people".

Starting January 22, Arun Govil, the MP from the Meerut-Hapur Lok Sabha constituency, will distribute 11 lakh copies of the Ramayana across the country to mark the first anniversary of the installation ceremony of Ram Lalla idol at Ayodhya temple.
The ambitious exercise is aimed “to counter negative thoughts among people that often drive them towards criminal activities,” the BJP MP, who played Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s iconic Ramayan TV serial, told reporters on Monday.
Govil said that the target of distributing 11 lakh Ramayana copies free of cost to households will be met during his five-year term in Parliament.
The MP said that he has decided to carry forward his mega mission after Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave his go-ahead.
“When I contested the MP elections, I was one among the poorest contestants. After the elections, my economic condition worsened further but I have decided to spend my own money on the distribution of the copies. If anyone wants to join me in the massive project, he or she is a welcome.The copies will also be given to the MPs in Parliament,” said Govil.
A website has also been launched to extend the reach of the mission, so that anyone who is willing to have a copy can contact through the portal, he said at his residence in Defence Colony in Meerut.
The Ramayana will be printed at Geeta Press in Gorakhpur in 13 languages so that it can be read by non-Hindi-speaking population, he mentioned.
“The epic even shows a relation between the enemies and if anyone can even imbibe the 10 per cent of the message and morals in the epic in his or her life, it can lead to welfare of society and also the self. The book is an epitome of a high-degree social relations. I have decided to take on the massive exercise of distribution to discharge my duty as a responsible citizen of our great country,” Govil said.
The distribution of Ramayana copies will be inaugurated at a village in Hapur Legislative Assembly constituency on Wednesday at an event to be attended the MP, his wife Srilekha Govil and local BJP leaders.
”We have decided to make a cluster of five villages and localities in Hapur /Meerut towns to ease and ensure maximum reach to the people. Next day, the same exercise will be conducted in villages under Kithore Assembly seat,” Govil explained.
