BSP chief Mayawati on Saturday said her party supported the law for food security in-principle,but added that the central government should have introduced a bill for the food security in Parliament instead of adopting the way of ordinance.
She said the Supreme Court had asked the government about two years ago to think about distributing the grain rotting because of lack of storage in the country,to the poor and needy people.
She said the food security law was expected to come up after that direction of court,but it took more than two years for the government to bring the law.
Phir bhi,der aaye,durust aaye,(still,better late,than never). However,it would have been better if the government introduced the bill in Parliament after taking the views of all the political parties, she said.
Reacting to the statements of Congress leaders Raj Babbar and Rasheed Masood that a full meal can be had at Rs 12 in Mumbai and Rs 5 in Delhi,she said these statements by Congress leaders show that they have never seen poverty in their lives.
She said the comments were a cruel joke on poor.
