Man held for robbing German couple

The police on Monday arrested a rickshaw driver for allegedly robbing a German couple on late Sunday night.

The police on Monday arrested a rickshaw driver for allegedly robbing a German couple on late Sunday night in Hazratganj police station area.

Police arrested rickshaw driver Javed alias Sonu from Bapu Nagar locality for allegedly planning the robbery along with two other persons identified as Nazim and Raju,who are still absconding.

The police claimed to have recovered Rs 1,000 which was allegedly robbed by Javed from the couple who were travelling in his rickshaw. Police claimed they were informed about Javed,Nazim and Raju’s presence in Bapu Nagar. When police reached there,Raju and Nazim,who were on motorbikes,fled after seeing the police but Javed was arrested,said Sub-Inspector Nagendra Pratap Singh.

The incident had taken place near La Martiniere Girls College in Hazratganj area on Sunday night around 11 pm when Rafael and his wife Julia,both social scientists,were going to their rented accommodation in Wazirganj area in an auto rickshaw after visiting the Saharaganj mall.

Two persons waiting on a bike robbed their purse which had their identity cards,ATM card and Rs 10,000 near La Martiniere College where the rickshaw driver stopped the vehicle,Singh said,adding that while the couple stepped out of the rickshaw following the robbery,Javed also fled with his vehicle. Julia suffered minor injuries on her leg as she tried to grab the purse being snatched by the robbers.
