Maha Kumbh stampede: Police yet to find conspiracy proof, say investigation on
The Kumbh administration had installed cameras across the area, including at the stampede site. Officers are also examining photographs and videos of the incident that surfaced online.

MORE THAN two weeks after last month’s Maha Kumbh stampede, which claimed at least 30 lives, the Uttar Pradesh Police are still investigating whether it was a “conspiracy”, but are yet to find any substantial evidence to support the claim. No FIR has been filed yet in connection with the January 29 stampede.
The police, analysing images and videos from the Kumbh area, are still closely monitoring for any signs of foul play before the stampede, officers said on Wednesday. They reviewed the incident footage multiple times to track movements of devotees at the site, the officers added.
The Kumbh administration had installed cameras across the area, including at the stampede site. Officers are also examining photographs and videos of the incident that surfaced online.
Police overseeing the probe remain tight-lipped, but senior officers, who did not wish to be named, said that no one has been identified as provoking the stampede. They are also not pursuing any persons under suspicion.
Sources said that investigators have yet to find concrete evidence of a conspiracy or identify any person or group responsible for triggering the stampede.
DIG (Kumbh) Vaibhav Krishna confirmed that the inquiry is ongoing.
Moreover, a three-member judicial commission, led by retired Allahabad High Court Justice Harsh Kumar, has begun its inquiry into the stampede. The team has visited the site and gathered information from officials. The other members are former DGP V K Gupta and retired IAS officer D K Singh. The commission will also examine video footage of the site as part of the probe.
The commission has also been tasked with examining the causes and circumstances that led to the stampede and providing recommendations to prevent such incidents in future. The commission has to submit a report within one month of its formation.
The police are also looking into another incident that took place in the Jhusi area of Maha Kumbh Nagar. The Jhusi area is around two km from the spot where the stampede took place. The inquiry team are also scrutinising photos and videos of the area. No FIR has been lodged into this matter yet.
DIG Krishna said the inquiry into the incident is still on.
The stampede occurred around 1:30 am on Wednesday as crowds moved toward the Sangam Nose on January 29.
After the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed that there was a “conspiracy” behind the stampede and those responsible would face the strictest possible action once they are identified in the investigation by the government-constituted inquiry commission and police.
