Congress: the loser
The Legislative Council elections have shown that the BSPs flock management was the best, while it was the opposite for the Congress. At no point of time, the Congress had sufficient votes to ensure the victory of its candidate,Dilip Singh Judev, but it claimed that it would swing enough votes from other parties. As the polling progressed,Judevs body language clearly indicated that something had gone wrong, although the Congress legislators were all present in his office. Which party is suffering maximum desertions? an amused minister asked a mediaperson. The reporter replied that it might be the Congress. You have the correct information, the minister replied with a hearty laugh. Judev had tried hard to mobilise legislators of his own caste from all parties. While some of them promised their support, others had put a condition: they would vote for him if he could bag the votes of all the Congress MLAs,disclosed an MLA. Once it became clear that his own partymen had ditched Judev, his castemen saw no point in backing him. The Samajwadi Party and the BJP also suffered desertions, but not to the extent that Congress did. The BSP,on the other hand, got more than 20 extra votes.
Kalyan versus Rajnath
Bahut hoshiyar aadami hai,(He is a clever person) this is how Kalyan Singh chose to describe BJP national president Rajnath Singh at his press conference. It is pretty evident that things werent very mushy between the both. But what provoked Kalyan Singhs remark? It seems Rajnath Singh gave the BJP ticket for the Rajya Sabha to Kusum Rai without consulting Kalyan Singh. Since Rais was known as Kalyan Singhs protégé,Kalyan could not dissociate himself from the decision, even if he had any reservations. This decision had two ripple effects: First,he won over Kusum Rai and managed to create a rift between her and Kalyan Singh. Second,at the same time,he sent out a signal that he was rewarding a protégé of Kalyan Singh.
Not blind love
The father-son duo claims to have buried the BJP in their backyard and embrace their new love has not gone done well with their trusted battalion. Kalyan Singh has not been able to convince one of his most trusted men to join the Samajwadi Party. Kripal Singh, former BJP MLC and resident of Atrauli in Aligarh, was known as Kalyan Singhs shadow since 1980,and Kalyan Singh had rewarded him with a seat in the Legislative Council in 1998. Sources said Kripal Singh was vehemently against joining the SP because he believes that the Lodh community would be reduced to playing the second fiddle in the party dominated by the Yadavs. He has refused to take Kalyan Singhs calls because he thinks the former chief minister has let down the community and ruined the political fortunes of the Lodh leaders in a national party like the BJP.
Netaji,please take me in
Naresh Agarwal was the first person to meet Shakshi Maharaj, president of the Rashtriya Kranti Party (RKP) and a Lodh leader from Farrukhabad, when he visited Lucknow a day after Kalyan Singhs son joined the Samajwadi Party. The meeting had been fixed in advance. As soon as Agarwal reached the Rashtriya Kranti Party office, the Lodh leader,in saffron attire, told the mediapersons that Agarwal had come as his disciple, and there was no political motive behind his visit. It is learnt that Shakshi Maharaj has friends in all parties and it appears that Agarwal wanted him to plead his case with Mulayam Singh Yadav for a suitable accommodation in the Samajwadi Party. SP sources said the RKP leader actually conveyed the message to Netaji. Agarwal has been asked to wait as the current political situation is fluid. Riding the crest of the Ram wave,Shakshi Maharaj was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Mathura in the 1991 Lok Sabha elections. He left the BJP along with Kalyan Singh in 1999,but refused to return to the BJP with Kalyan Singh in 2004.
LDAs tall claims
While launching the new website of Lucknow Development Authority, officials claimed that it will provide an easy access to all government orders related to housing and development. All that the LDA has done is to provide a link to the website of the Housing and Urban Planning Department http://www.awas.up.nic.in where no new government order has been uploaded in the last several months.
