LU gets new V-C,this time from IIT-Bombay

The Lucknow University got a third IITian as its vice-chancellor on Wednesday.

The Lucknow University (LU) got a third IITian as its vice-chancellor (V-C) on Wednesday. Governor B L Joshi,also the Chancellor of the university,appointed Manoj Kumar Mishra,professor of chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay as the new LU V-C.

He will be third IITian in a row to be appointed as the university V-C. The post of vice-chancellor fell vacant when Professor A S Brar was appointed as the V-C of Guru Nanak University,Punjab,in July.

The new V-C,Mishra,has done his PhD in Quantum Theory Project from University of Florida,USA and his MSc from Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi.

Speaking to The Indian Express from Mumbai,Mishra said: “I am very excited about the new opportunity though I have been with IIT for a long time.” Accepting that he will have a more disciplined university to tackle as compared to his predecessors,he added: “I believe my predecessors have already improved a lot of things. I will concentrate more on basic academics,like lectures or having more competitions like quizzes to keep the students busy.”

Mishra plans to join LU either in the last week of October or the first week of November.
