Local body polls deferred in 4 dists

The State Election Commission on Sunday postponed local body elections in four districts of Kannauj,Auraiya,Ramabai Nagar and Mathura in view of Mudiya Poono festival that will be celebrated in Mathura on July 3 and 4.

The State Election Commission (SEC) on Sunday postponed local body elections in four districts of Kannauj,Auraiya,Ramabai Nagar and Mathura in view of Mudiya Poono festival that will be celebrated in Mathura on July 3 and 4.

The SEC had scheduled poll notification in these districts on June 11,polling on July 10 and counting on July 12.

Joint Election Commissioner JP Singh said that elections of all these four districts will be conducted after the festival in Mathura was over and administration officials would be free from festival duty.

The SEC has postponed the election in Mathura for the second time. It was first scheduled on July 4. The SEC had later decided to conduct the elections here with three other districts of Kannauj,Auraiya and Ramabai Nagar where elections were not declared because of Kannauj by-poll.
