Karnataka dominating in match against Uttar Pradesh

After piling up a massive total of 416 runs on board,Karnataka team restricted Uttar Pradesh to 163 for the loss of 5 wickets on day-two of the Ranji Trophy Super League match being played at Green Park Stadium,Kanpur.

Karnataka wicketkeeper,CM Gautam who was unbeaten at 62 at stumps on day-one,went on to score 115 runs which included twelve hits to the boundary. A 126-run partnership for the ninth wicket between Gautam and UB Patel took the Karnataka score past the 400 mark. In response,after losing half their side for only 90 runs,an unbeaten partnership of 73 runs between Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Piyush Chawla took the UP score to 163 runs for the loss of five wickets at stumps on day-two.

Resuming the game on day-two,Karnataka tail-enders made the UP bowlers toil hard for each wicket. Sunil Joshi after scoring 26 runs was the first man dismissed on Thursday morning. Bhuvneshwar Kumar trapped Joshi leg before wicket when the score was 290 run. UB Patel joined CM Gautam,and the duo put up a partnership of 126 runs for the ninth wicket. Patel scored a quickfire 72 which included 12 boundaries and a massive six. When the score was 416 runs,Patel was caught by Kaif off the bowling of Chawla. At the end of the 121st over,CM Gautam was the last man to be dismissed by spinner Praveen Gupta.

UP had a dismal start as opener Shivakant Shukla (5) and Eklavya Dwivedi (0) were back in the pavilion with the scoreboard reading 14 runs in 4.3 overs. Shukla was trapped leg before by S Aravind while Dwivedi was caught by wicketkeeper CM Gautam off the bowling of Karnataka captain R Vinay Kumar. The other opener Tanmay Srivastava (8) was dismissed lbw by R Vinay Kumar just a run later. Parvinder Singh was the fourth UP batsman to be dismissed.

After scoring 22 runs which included five boundaries,Singh was caught by Manish Pandey on the bowling of UB Patel. UP captain Mohammad Kaif failed to impress during his 113 minute stay at the crease. Kaif faced 110 balls to score 23 runs including three boundaries before edging a catch to the wicketkeeper on Sunil Joshi’s bowling. The departure of Kaif left UP team at a dismal score of 90 runs for the loss of five wickets in 34.3 overs.

Allrounder Bhuvneshwar Kumar and spinner Piyush Chawla put up an unbeaten 73 runs partnership for the sixth wicket to take UP to a respectable score of 163 runs for the loss of five wickets at stumps on day-two. Kumar remained unbeaten at 51 which included eight boundaries. With seven hits to the boundary and a six,Chawla remained unbeaten at 43. For Karnataka R Vinay Kumar picked up two wickets,whereas Joshi,Patel and Aravind took one wicket each.
