THE ANTI-TERRORIST Squad (ATS) of the UP Police on Wednesday arrested a 38-year-old employee at the ordnance factory in Kanpur for allegedly sharing “confidential and sensitive information” about the facility with a woman who is a Pakistani national suspected of being an “agent”, officers said on Wednesday.

The accused, Kumar Vikas, hails from Kanpur Dehat and is a manager at the factory.

A police statement said Vikas’s alleged actions posed a threat to the country’s unity, integrity and national security. A case has been registered against him at the ATS office in Lucknow under the Officials Secrets Act and other relevant charges.

Vikas’s arrest days after the ATS nabbed Ravindra Kumar, an employee of the ordnance factory in Hazratpur on similar charges— of passing on sensitive information to a woman Pakistani agent who used an alias.

According to the police, they received information that an employee of the Kanpur Ordnance Factory was also in contact with the woman and had been sending some confidential details through a messaging app.

The ATS later identified the accused and during questioning, he told officers that he came in contact with the woman in January through a social networking site.

According to the police statement, the woman introduced herself to Vikas as an employee of an electricals firm.

The statement added that it is alleged that, under her influence and lured by money, Vikas shared confidential documents related to the ordnance factory. These included technical documents, equipment details, blueprints, photographs of internal machinery and production-related charts. Further investigation is underway, police said.
