There is some good news at last for Team India discard M Kaif. Though speculation was ripe about the change in captaincy, however, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association’s working committee which met at Jhansi on Friday decided to retain Kaif as UP Ranji skipper. The meeting was attended by UPCA secretary and chairman media and finance committee BCCI Rajeev Shukla.

Talking to The Indian Express over phone from Jhansi,Prem Dhar Pathak, incharge sports and administration UPCA said,“It was under Kaif’s captaincy that UP reached the Ranji finals for three years so why should we replace him? Kaif is an excellent skipper and UP has been doing extremely well under his captaincy.”

Pathak confided that the UPCA had also decided not to make any changes in the state selection committees. “No changes have been made in either the junior, senior or the women’s selection committees because of the satisfactory performances by these committees.”

The UPCA has also decided to enhance the renumeration of the under-16,under-19,under-22 and Ranji team coaches. The exact hike will be decided when UPCA officials meet at Kanpur in a couple of days. Pathak claimed that the BCCI has increased the deadline for construction of a stadium in the state by the UPCA from September 2009 to October 2010. “We have in mind a couple of places at NOIDA and Kanpur and we are optimistic about at least starting the construction of the stadium before October 2010. The completion will take two to three years.” He said that UPCA is hopeful of playing host to IPL matches in 2011.

Rajeev Shukla refused to comment anything on Team India player Virender Sehwag’s recent remarks about the functioning of the DDCA. He said that it was an internal matter of the Delhi body and its office-bearers are competent enough to deal with the situation.
