Jordan team today sweat it out at the badminton hall of KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium,Lucknow ahead of the Badminton Asia Youth Under-19 Championships.

Jordan team today sweat it out at the badminton hall of KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium,Lucknow ahead of the Badminton Asia Youth Under-19 Championships. The championships will be held at UP Badminton Academy (UPBA),Lucknow from July 1 to 9.

Besides participation in the above championships,the Jordanian players are also attending a ‘development programme’ of the Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC) which comes to a close on July 3. The Jordanian players who have arrived so far include Ahmad Alwaqfi,Thaer Edvan,Haneen Alwedyan and Domon Amro. The shuttlers practised from 9.00 am to 11.30 am in the morning session and from 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm in the evening session.

Ravindra Chauhan,national umpire and accommodation in charge for the championships informed that by Thursday,teams from Nepal,Bangladesh,China,Hong Kong,Japan,Indonesia,Malaysia,Sri Lanka and Singapore will be arriving.

A seminar was also conducted for the line judges by Director Competition S Muralidharan (vice-president BAI) on Wednesday.

Meanwhile,sources at the UPBA informed that some timely management of things at the badminton hall of the KD Singh ‘Babu’ Stadium prevented water leakage on the courts there. The venue has also been selected as one of the practice venues for the championships. Though due to heavy rainfall on Wednesday,water still managed to leak through the sides of the walls but the courts remained unharmed. “The tin sheets of the badminton hall have many holes. The PWD had arranged for water-proof sheets on Monday itself and good supervision of the covering process on Tuesday prevented the courts from getting wet,” he informed.
