JFI officials inspect national judo camp

The duration of the camp is August 1 to September 25 and it is in preparation for the Asian junior and youth judo championships to be held at Taipei from September 26 to 30.

Judo Federation of India (JFI) officials including its secretary general Mukesh Kumar and JFI vice president and president UP Judo Association (UPJA) KL Gupta on Tuesday visited SAI Sub-centre,Lucknow to inspect the progress of the national coaching camp for sub junior and junior men and women being held there. The duration of the camp is August 1 to September 25 and it is in preparation for the Asian junior and youth judo championships to be held at Taipei from September 26 to 30.

General secretary UPJA Munawar Anzar informed,The main purpose of the visit of the JFI secretary general was to inspect the camp as this is the first time a national camp for judo is being held in Lucknow. He seemed satisfied by the facilities being provided to the judokas.

Plans are also in the pipeline to open a state-level judo centre at Varanasi. In a couple of months,the UP judokas could soon get training from a Japanese coach, he added.

The UPJA had requested JFI to arrange for Japanese coaches for UP following which two representatives of Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) had also come to UP two years ago to study the UP judo scenario.
