Jeep mows down child,locals torch police outpost

Angry over the death of a child in a road accident,locals set a police outpost on fire and clashed with the security personnel in the Gulriha area of Gorakhpur district on Thursday.

The police resorted to lathicharge and shot tear gas shells to disperse the mob. Four people have been arrested. Gorakhpur SP (City) Banwari said a jeep mowed down Anoop (7) while he was walking towards DNBP Inter College.

He died on the spot. The driver,Ravindra Yadav,who had managed to flee,was later arrested.

Angry over the incident,locals accompanied by a group of students reached Sarahari outpost where the driver was locked up.

When the mob demanded the police to hand over the erring driver,he was shifted to Gulriha police station. Irked by this,the mob ransacked the outpost and set it on fire. Two motorcycles,wireless set and furniture were damaged in the arson.
