Independent candidate shot at in Deoria

Independent candidate from Rampur Karkhana Assembly seat,Girijesh Shahi alias Guddu Shahi was allegedly shot at near the Langra crossing in Deoria.

Deoria: Independent candidate from Rampur Karkhana Assembly seat,Girijesh Shahi alias Guddu Shahi was allegedly shot at near the Langra crossing in Deoria. Shahi was shot at around 11 pm on Thursday and was rushed to the district hospital from where he was referred to Gorakhpur Medical College Hospital. His condition is now stated to be stable. He was fired upon by unidentified men when he went to get his jeep repaired,police said,adding investigations were on.

EC wraps up hearing on Khurshid

New Delhi: The Election Commission on Friday completed its hearing in connection with the notice served on Law Minister Salman Khurshid on his promise of increasing the sub-quota for backward minorities,while campaigning in UP. Wrapping up the arguments for the Law Minister,his lawyer Abhishek Singhvi told the Commission that Khurshid had not done anything wrong and in doing so was acting as an individual Congressman and not as a minister. The EC has completed a second set of detailed hearing today and all relevant facts have been put before it, Singhvi said.
