3 dead,five injured as car hits tree
Two persons were charred to death while another died of head injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in rammed a tree and caught fire after being hit by a bus in the Nigohan area of Lucknow on Saturday morning. Two of the three deceased have been identified as Luv Kush (driver) and Ram Kumar. Five other occupants of the vehicle suffered serious injuries in the incident. They have been identified as Sukhbeer Kumar (30),Kanchan (32),Rakesh Kumar (23),Naresh Kumar (40),Sunil Kumar (25) and Shiv Karan Yadav (50). Sukhbeer was admitted to the CSMMU Trauma Centre in a critical condition while the other injured were admitted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Mohanlalganj area. The driver lost control after the vehicle was hit by a UPSRTC bus and rammed a tree. We suspect the vehicle caught fire after its fuel pipe burst, said Ved Prakash Tripathi,in-charge of the Nigohan police station.
2010-11 annual budget to be presented on Feb 4
State Finance Minister Lalji Verma will present the 2010-11 annual budget in the State Assembly on February 4. The budget session of the State Legislature will commence on January 21 with the customary joint address by Governor B L Joshi. The business advisory committee of the UP Assembly will meet on January 19 to chalk out the agenda of the lower house for the budget session.
Bus turns turtle at Biswan,five dead
Five persons died while 18 others suffered injuries after the bus they were travelling in turned turtle in the Biswan area of Sitapur district on Saturday. The incident took place when the driver lost control over the speeding bus and it rammed a tree in Sarsarai village. The injured were admitted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC). The police said that the bus driver fled the scene following the incident.
Passenger train rams truck
The Kanpur-Jhansi passenger train rammed a truck near the railway crossing in Jalaun on Saturday morning. No injuries were reported. The police have impounded the truck. The driver and cleaner of the truck are absconding.
BSPs K K Gautam pro-tem chairman of Upper House
Former finance minister and BSP MLC Kamal Kant Gautam has been nominated as the pro-tem chairman of the UP Legislative Council,in which the ruling party has taken up its tally from 22 to 56 following polls of the local bodies constituency.
Governor B L Joshi has nominated K K Gautam to discharge responsibilities as the pro-tem chairman of the Upper House till the time a new chairperson is elected, Mohan Yadav,principal secretary of the Legislative Council,said today.
Its the first time that a BSP member has been chosen to head the 100-member House. Gautam will replace Sukhram Singh Yadav of Samajwadi Party.
