Green Park to be spruced up

The state sports department seems to be serious about sprucing up of the popular Green Park Stadium at Kanpur.

Proposals to the tune of about Rs 33 crores have already been sent to the state government.

RSO Kanpur Bula Ganguly disclosed,“ The proposals had been sent to the government about six months back and is under consideration.

However,we have not received any formal feedback from the government. Kanpur is famous for its cricket loving people so we intend to improve all facilities related to cricket in particular.”

Bula,who is also a former hockey international,informed that plans were in the pipeline for the construction of an enclosure for the third umpire,‘a director’s pavilion’,warden’s residence,residence for officials on duty during tournaments,players’ dormitory,upgradation of stairs,a small swimming pool besides many other things.

“The construction of a weightlifting hall is already under progress and is likely to be completed by November this year”, she added.
