Govt to tie up with TERI for climate change action plan

The Uttar Pradesh government is all set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Energy and Resources Institute,New Delhi for implementation of the state action plan for climate change.

The Uttar Pradesh government is all set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI),New Delhi for implementation of the state action plan for climate change.

The state government has formulated the action points it will take under the eight missions outlined by the Prime Minister under the National Action Plan on climate change. To work on this in the next 10 to 15 years,a draft state action plan is being prepared.

“TERI will support us during implementation of the state action plan for climate change in next 10 to 15 years. It will also provide us assistance in capacity building and human resource development,” said Yashpal Singh,Environment Director and State Nodal Officer for climate change mitigation. He said TERI will support the state in research and development programme.

The state action plan will contain details of key environment issues prevailing in Uttar Pradesh,impact of climate change and vulnerability assessment,ongoing programmes contributing to adaptation and mitigation and climate change strategy.

State Environment officials said TERI had made a presentation of the draft MoU in a high-level meeting on September 9. “The draft MoU will soon be sent to all the eight core groups formed for these missions. The draft MoU will be finalised after incorporating their suggestions on it. MoU will be signed with TERI very soon,” Singh said.
