Govt cancels permission for Varun rally in Agra,BJP says will go ahead

The Agra district administration Thursday cancelled the permission granted earlier for a BJP rally proposed to be held at a college ground in Akola area on Sunday

The Agra district administration Thursday cancelled the permission granted earlier for a BJP rally proposed to be held at a college ground in Akola area on Sunday. However,saffron party announced that it will go ahead with the rally,which is slated to be addressed by senior leader L K Advani and BJP national general secretary Varun Gandhi.

Agra District Magistrate Zuhair Bin Saghir said the permission was cancelled on the basis of reports of Sub-district Magistrate and Circle Officer concerned. He said the reports stated possibilities of disturbance during the rally.

Saghir said that earlier too the permission was granted for the rally based on the reports given by the SDM and CO. “But today they gave a different report stating that the area where rally was scheduled is dominated by Jats and Muslims and BJP leaders might make provocative speeches with reference to violence in Muzaffarnagar. That may disturb peace in area,” the DM said.

He said that a group of nearly 40 youths had raised slogans in the area that they will turn Agra into another Muzaffarnagar.

BJP Agra district president Ashok Rana said that district administration had given permission for the rally on September 3. “At 7:30 pm today,I received a letter from DM stating that permission of rally has been cancelled,” Rana said,adding that in the letter,administration has stated that some anti-social elements can disturb peace in the rally.

He said the administration has stated that recently back a fake video was circulated in the Jat dominated Karawali area and some youths and that there is tension in that area.

“That is not true and there is no possibility of any disturbance,” Rana said,adding,

“If ruling SP’s national executive committee meeting could be held in Agra,then why not BJP’s rally?”

BJP state president Laxmikant Bajpai said,“SP government has cancelled the permission only to appease minister Azam Khan,” Bajpai said the rally will be held at the same place and time on Sunday.
