Forgery, use of Bluetooth’: 35 held for cheating in TET

A total of 35 people, including candidates who used unfair means and others who helped them cheat in the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET), were arrested across the state Sunday. The test is mandatory for getting teaching jobs in government schools from classes I to VIII. According to a statement released by the office of the director general of police, nine were arrested by the state’s Special Task Force (STF), while the remaining were nabbed by local police in various districts (see box).

Six solvers were arrested in Moradabad while they were planning to help candidates by swapping photos on candidates’ admit cards. A member of a gang selling question papers to candidates prior to the examination was arrested in Bijnor.

The accused include those trying to appear in the exam on someone else’s behalf, those using Bluetooth devices during the examination and those trying to forge exam-related documents.

The statement released by the DGP’s office said the arrests were made under the ongoing campaign against “solver gangs” in the state and people using unfair means to pass the exam. DGP Om Prakash Singh had recently directed IG STF Amitabh Yash to ensure there are no discrepancies in this year’s TET.
