After widespread complaints of irregularities in the disabled pension scheme, the state government has decided that the beneficiaries will have to submit their disability certificates every quarter.
Earlier, the pensioners were supposed to submit their certificates annually.
The district disabled welfare officers will update their record every quarter with physical verifications on a regular basis by the district administration.
Reports of irregularities in disabled pension were received from several districts, including Barabanki,Moradabad,Baghpat and Muzzafarnagar. It was found that a large number of people who were not disabled were getting the pension of Rs 150 per month. Also, there were people who did not fulfill the criteria of a minimum 40 per cent disability.
Director of Disabled Welfare A K Baranwal said: We want to update our records regularly. We are sure that this move will help us in eliminating the anomalies.
The department is also planning to computerise the record of disabled pensions by next year. We will then ask the districts to update the list of beneficiaries on their websites. This will ensure transparency, said Baranwal.
