A 27-year-old man,who had married a woman against her family’s wishes, was shot dead in Dhoomanganj area of Allahabad on Tuesday night, allegedly by his brother-in-law. No arrests have been made so far.

According to the police,Amar Chandra Pal,son of Bhagwan Deen Pal,was going on his scooter along with a photographer friend when he was spotted by the alleged assailant,Panchlal Pal,around 8.30 p.m. in Pipal Gaon area of Dhoomanganj.

“The accused, who had parked his bike on the road leading to the Indian Institute of Information Technology (Allahabad),walked towards Amar and shot him from close range. Amar sustained single gunshot injury on the right side of temple,” said Station Officer (Dhoomanganj),Gyanendra Kumar Singh. Amar’s photographer friend suffered superficial injuries as the scooter fell.

Amar was rushed to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The accused escaped from the spot.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Amar, who had been living in Rajroop Pur,had gone to meet his father, who works in the state Animal Husbandry Department. “He was returning when Panchlal Pal spotted him,” said Singh.

Amar, who worked as a photographer taking up assignments during marriages and other such functions, had married Reena,a girl from his own village Pipal Gaon, against the wishes of her family last year. He had first eloped with Reena and then got married.

Following threats from Reena’s family,Amar had shifted to a rented accommodation in Rajroop Pur. However,Panchlal would often allegedly threaten Amar with dire consequences.
