Fix milestones for prevention of encephalitis: Chief Secretary

For prevention and control of encephalitis in the coming season of the disease,the chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh has asked all the departments concerned to fix milestones of their preparations.

The commissioners and district magistrates have been instructed to review the work done by each department monthly according to these milestones and send the report to principal secretary,Health and Family Welfare.

Chief secretary Jawed Usmani,chairing a meeting held for reviewing the progress of preparations for prevention of encephalitis,instructed the departments concerned to complete the procurement procedures of mountable fogging machines and insecticides for fogging by April 15 and ensure fogging in encephalitis-hit districts from June onwards.

He also asked the officials to complete the training of 100 nurses and 100 doctors in treating encephalitis patients under capacity building in medical management by May. He instructed the officials to complete the construction of the 100-bed encephalitis ward at BRD Medical College Gorakhpur by March and also arrange for virology laboratories in Gorakhpur and Basti districts by April 30.

Usmani said that the state has already sent a proposal of Rs 2.06 crore to Government of India for establishing paediatric ICU in 11 districts and for providing nutritious food as well as handicapped rehabilitation and counselling centres in the 20 affected districts. Another proposal of Rs 243 crore has also been sent to the Centre for another 629 schemes including providing 4,189 hand pumps in these districts,said the release.
