FIR against former minister in fraud case

The Economic Offence Wing lodged an FIR against former Minister of State for Finance Vimal Krishna Agarwal for cheating and fraud in the purchase of a government-owned cold store.

The Economic Offence Wing on Thursday lodged an FIR against former Minister of State for Finance Vimal Krishna Agarwal for cheating and fraud in the purchase of a government-owned cold store. Five officials have been named as co-accused in the FIR lodged at Ujhani police station in Budaun district.

It is alleged that Agarwal,a minister in the Samajwadi Party government, purchased the government property at a price much lower than the circle rate.

However,Agarwal said he had bought the property in an open auction in 2005 which was attended by 35 bidders, the cold store had liabilities of Rs 40 lakh and he was not a minister at that time.

Budaun SSP DK Chaudhary said Mitrapal Singh Yadav,a former zila panchayat member, had lodged a complaint in 2008 alleging that the former minister,in connivance with officials, had bought the cold store at a low price, causing a loss to the exchequer. The government had ordered a probe by the EOW.
