Ex-top cop,brothers of don Ansari are now comrades in Peace Party

Announcing that the Peace Party will contest on all the 403 seats in the state in the 2012 Assembly polls under the banner of the Lok Kranti Morcha,Ayub said the names of the candidates would be announced one month ahead of the elections.

He further said cleansing the society of criminals,corruption and communalism will be the party’s agenda for the Assembly polls.

Immediately after his joining,Singh was made the national general secretary of the Peace Party and was also appointed as the party spokesperson.

At the press meet,the retired DGP said,“No one can doubt the credentials of Dr Ayub for his efforts for the cause of communal harmony and this has encouraged me to join the party.’’ However,he maintained that his entry in politics was not encouraged by Anna Hazare’s movement against corruption.

Yashpal Singh was DGP during the rule of Samajwadi Party led by Mulayam Singh Yadav in 2003-07.

His wife Geeta Singh is an active member of the SP and was elected on SP ticket to UP Assembly in 2002 from Gonda district. When asked if his wife would also join the Peace party,Singh said she is free to pursue her political agenda as per her discretion.

Welcoming the former DGP in the party,Ayub said more renowned personalities would join the party in the coming days.

When his attention was drawn to the recent sharing of platform by the Peace Party and the Quami Ekta Dal,a political outfit floated by brother of mafia don Mukhtar Ansari,Afzal Ansari in Azamgarh,Ayub said Afzal was not a criminal. “Mukhtar never shared dais with us and though we don’t know whether he is a criminal or not,’’ said Ayub.

He further said,“Ansari brothers are not criminals and they are with the Peace Party.”
