Local traders staged a demonstration in Jaswant Nagar area of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadavs native Etawah district after a jewellers 21-year-old son was kidnapped by SUV-borne men Monday morning.
Police said Prashant Pandey (21) was on way to his shop in Jaswant Nagar market on a motorcycle when a Bolero vehicle intercepted him near Haibera locality.
Eyewitnesses told the police that about five armed men dragged Prashant into the Bolero and drove away.
The traders have threatened to intensify the agitation if the police do not make any breakthrough in the next 24 hours,said victims father Ramesh Pandey.
Etawah SSP Nilabja Choudhury said the reason behind the youths abduction is yet to be known as the kidnappers are yet to contact the family.
Choudhury also said the family are tight-lipped about any enmity or threat,which could have led to the kidnapping. He also said since the victim belonged to a well-off family,they could not rule out the possibility of ransom.
Jaswant Nagar circle officer (CO) Narendra Dev said people could not see the vehicles number. The border was sealed,but the Bolero could not be traced. The police have picked up five suspects for interrogation on the basis of information provided by the victims father.
