The wife of Irrigation Department Executive Engineer Kesari Nandan, who was found unconscious at his residence and later died in a hospital in Gonda on Thursday, has alleged that her husband was poisoned to death, and had not committed suicide,as the police claimed.
Following her complaint, the police lodged a case of causing death by administering poison against unnamed persons.
The engineer stayed alone in Gonda, where he was posted, while his family was in Siddhartha Nagar. Nandan was found unconscious in bed, with a bottle of insecticide on a table close by.
Nandans wife Amrita,in her complaint, alleged that a few junior engineers and contractors were responsible for her husbands death, and they had poisoned him.
She said these persons used to compel her husband to clear bills without verification and had threatened him in the past. They had humiliated her husband in the office recently. He had told her about it,but had not revealed the names of the tormentors.
SHO of the City Kotwali police station Bharat Yadav said office staff and engineers and contractors will be questioned in the light of allegations made by Nandans wife.
He said Nandan, after leaving his office around 2.30 pm had gone to his residence. Later,he had called up his office staff and told them that he was feeling unwell and needed medical treatment.
Some employees from the office went to his place and found him unconscious. They also saw an empty bottle of insecticide lying on a table close to his bed. Nandan was rushed to a private nursing home from where he was referred to the district hospital where he died during the treatment, the SHO added.
