Employers beat up minor help,FIR lodged

A minor domestic help was beaten up by her employers at the posh Gomti Nagar on Wednesday.

A minor domestic help was beaten up by her employers at the posh Gomti Nagar on Wednesday.

The eight-year-old girl’s left arm and left leg were fractured,while her lips were swollen. A case has been registered against her employers.

The incident came to light after the girl,Khushbu,was found crying by residents of Virat Khand area in Gomti Nagar,who handed her over to Childline — a child helpline service. The girl was taken to Lohia Hospital.

Giving details,Childline volunteer Varsha said,“We received a phone call at around 12 noon,informing us about a minor girl with injuries. After first-aid and medical check-up at Lohia Hospital,the girl was handed over to us. The girl,who hails from Siwan district in Bihar,had been working at the house of one Dr Aslam as domestic help for the last two months. She was hired by Dr Aslam’s wife Shamim.”

The doctors reported that Khushbu suffered the injuries after being beaten up.

“Hiring a minor as domestic help is already a crime under the Child Labour Act. In addition,she was beaten up,” said CWC member Sadhna Mehrotra.

Meanwhile,Childline has contacted the Siwan district police to locate Khushbu’s family. The girl is now at the State Children’s Protection Home at Prag Narain Road.
