The Election Commission has sought a report from the District Magistrate of Sultanpur regarding the alleged presence of over 10 people in the chamber of the returning officer at the time of filing of nomination by AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi.
As per rules,a maximum of four persons can accompany the candidate at the time of filing the nomination.
Rahul, who is contesting the elections from Amethi, had filed his papers on Saturday at Sultanpur.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Amrit Abhijat said the Commission had sought the report from the Sultanpur DM after receiving a complaint. He could not recall the name of the complainant.
The Commission, meanwhile, has served a notice to Naresh Agrawal,BSP candidate from Farrukhabad, for allegedly using “objectionable words” against a police officer in his election speech. The Commission has asked Agrawal to submit his reply by April 8.
Abhijat said Agrawal had made the speech on March 24 at Ghumari locality of the Etah district.
“The BSP government still has three years left. Whose order will you abide by? Who will save you?” said Agrawal in his speech hinting at a police officer.
