Two days after his death in Lucknow jail premises, body of Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Y S Sachan was cremated here at electric crematorium on Friday evening amid police security.
Till afternoon, the family members were adamant on waiting for the governments order for transfer of the investigation of Dr Sachans mysterious death to CBI. But as they did not receive any positive response from the government, and the Allahabad High Court fixed hearing of a petition for CBI inquiry to July 18, they decided to cremate the body.
The deceaseds family had on Thursday decided not to cremate the body till the state government ordered the transfer of the case to CBI. Dr Sachans wife Malti too had submitted an affidavit in the Allahabad High Court elaborating on the sequence of the incidents. Till 3:30 pm today, the family members were telling the media the body will not be cremated. An air-conditioned chamber was also brought and the body was placed into it in a bid to preserve it for long.
After half-an-hour,the additional police force was called and security was tightened around Sachans residence. About 4:15pm,RK Sachan told that they have decided to cremate the body same day. Within next few minutes, the body was taken to the crematorium in a police ambulance that was parked outside the building since morning.
Neither the state government nor the High Court issued any order for transfer of the case to CBI today. It will not be possible to preserve the dead body till the next hearing of case,so we decided to cremate the body, said RK Sachan, elder brother of the deceased.
It is our own decision to cremate the body and there is no pressure from the government, he said. However,a BJP leader,Patel Ram Kumar Verma, present at the crematorium alleged the victims family was cremating the body under the pressure of state government. The family members were repeatedly receiving calls from the government officials to cremate the body, Verma said.
Sachan said the family was firm on its demand for CBI inquiry. We can also move to the Supreme Court with the appeal of CBI inquiry, said RK Sachan. The family was not worried and was ready to face any consequences into the case,he added.
Sachan said the government was issuing false statements. The Advocate General submitted in the court on Thursday that postmortem was conducted in my presence. That was false as I was out of mortuary, he said.
Meanwhile, deceaseds wife Malti has sent an application to the Chief Minister appealing to order CBI inquiry into the case. She has also given an application to Lucknow DIG to lodge an FIR in the case. She alleged that some high-profile government officials had murdered Dr Sachan.
The family members also alleged that a motor bike (Bajaj CT 100) of Dr Sachan had gone missing from outside the office of Crime Branch when he had gone there on April 5 in connection with another case. They suspect the police know about the bike and could misuse it to show its use in some crime.
Earlier,Lucknow Chief Medical Officer AK Mishra visited the family of the deceased. Samajwadi Party state president Akhilesh Yadav also met the family. We will raise this issue in the Parliament. Government has murdered Dr Sachan to protect two former state ministers who were involved in the financial anomalies in the Health department, Yadav said.
