DSP held for ‘marrying minor’

A deputy SP,posted as security officer at the secretariat of Chhattisgarh,was arrested in Balua police station of Chandauli district for allegedly marrying a minor girl on Monday.

A deputy SP,posted as security officer at the secretariat of Chhattisgarh,was arrested in Balua police station of Chandauli district for allegedly marrying a minor girl on Monday.

Station officer (SO) of Balua police station Mahendra Yadav confirmed that DSP Pradumna Yadav has been arrested under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act.

He said that a local informed him on Monday morning about a 14-year-old girl getting married to a 52-year-old man forcibly at Keenaram ashram at Ramgarh village. The police team rushed to the place to find Pradumna Yadav marrying a Class XI student. The school documents of the girl confirmed that she was born on July 15,1999.

An identity card found from Pradumna Yadav showed that he was a DSP promoted from the post of inspector and was posted as security officer at Chhattisgarh secretariat. He belonged to Utri village of Balua area,said the SO.

He also said that Yadav’s first wife had died while his second wife separated from him a few years ago. The DSP has a daughter and a son who are married,added the SO.
