The door-to-door garbage collection facility in the city will take off by May next year. This facility is part of the Rs 42.92 crore-Solid Waste Management scheme, which is going to be implemented under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission.
The Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam has shortlisted four companies AVR Project,A to Z,Ramky and Jyoti Builtech of which one will be selected for providing the services.
The Request for Proposal was invited in October, after which we have now finalised these companies. We will formally sign the agreement with one of the companies by next week once the model code of conduct is over, said R K Gaur,Technical Advisor,Construction and Design Services,UP Jal Nigam.
The company will provide the services for 30 years. Modalities like cost are yet to be decided. The company can also charge for their services from the residents as well, added Gaur.
The company will be responsible for collecting, segregating, transporting and decomposing the solid waste. The garbage waste that will be collected from the households will be segregated into bio-degradable and non bio-degradable waste.
Around 1,300 tonnes of garbage is being disposed on a daily basis. We want to dispose it in a scientific manner as per the rules that have been laid down, said Gaur.
Along with the finalisation of the door-to-door garbage collection,we will also finalise the landfill site by this month for the disposal of the waste. Once the construction work on the landfill site is completed in six months time,we will start the work on the door-to-door garbage collection, added Gaur.
A city-based NGO was finalised in January by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation for the collection of the solid waste in Gomti Nagar area. We charge the residents Rs 25 or Rs 30 or Rs 35 depending on the area of the house, said Pankaj Singh, president of the NGO.
The waste from nearly 600 households is being collected and is being dumped at the Sandhya Mau dumping ground. They will operate independently and will not be a part of our operation, said V K Mukesh,Director,C&DS,UP Jal Sansthan.
