An array of close-circuit cameras installed at the disputed site of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid to maintain round-the-clock vigil was officially switched on this Sunday.

Nearly 40 cameras have been installed in and around the 71.3 acre complex and some adjacent temples and buildings, including Hanuman Garhi,Kanak Bhawan and Nageshwar Nath.

The DIG of Faizabad Range,R K Rai,switched on the cameras at the security control room situated in the premises.

The installation has cost the small-scale industries department about Rs 1 crore.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Faizabad) S K S Rathore said,“After the installation of these cameras,we can easily monitor the entire place and observe the alertness of security personnel.”

“Soon after the July 5,2005 terrorist attack on the disputed site, there were announcements of revamping the security system but the implementation has begun now,” said an officer.

The administration is also strengthening the iron barricading around the disputed area as the 15-year-old barricades have become weak at various spots.
