Kanpur Divisional Commissioner Shalini Prasad was removed and District Inspector of Schools (DIOS),Farrukhabad,Nandlal Yadav supended after several students fainted and were rushed to hospital during a function in which Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav distributed free laptops.
The CM took the action after he returned to Lucknow after attending the function in Farrukhabad.
Secretary,Secondary Education,Kamran Rizvi and Farrukhabad DM Pawan Kumar,too,have been warned of action if the incident happened again.
Mismanagement allegedly marred the function. The students fainted before Akhilesh reached the venue. The district administration failed to provide them ORS sachets. School teachers were seen asking revenue officials on duty for ORS sachets. The arrangement for drinking water was said to be inadequate.
Sources said the administration spent nearly Rs 70 lakh for constructing the pandal for the function. One of the ceiling fans at the venue hung precariously over the head of the students.
While Rs 14 lakh was sanctioned for lunch and breakfast of students,they were reportedly given sub-standard lunch packets,which were returned by most of them. The food and civil supplies department was responsible for providing the lunch packets.
Unruly scenes were also witnessed when Samajwadi Party workers were stopped from climbing the stage.
