On Sunday, more than a lakh students had to return disappointed as the examination, scheduled for 9 am, was cancelled. The CPMT was cancelled after boxe containing the question papers and kept in the strong rooms of two banks in Ghaziabad district were found to be tampered.

Meanwhile, the state government has constituted a three member committee Monday to probe into the ‘administrative’ angle of the issue. The team led Principal Secretary, IT, Jiwesh Nandan and having Director General, Medical Education, Dr K K Gupta and Special Secretary, Medical Education Arindam Bhattacharya as members, would submit its report in 15 days.

The state, fearing contempt proceedings, would also file an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that the first two rounds of the counselling process will be delayed. The apex court had earlier directed for a time-bound admission schedule for medical and dental courses. “We will, however, be able to start the session in time,” said B S Bhullar, principal secretary, Medical Education.

Bhullar also ruled out replacing the organising agency —- Lucknow-based King George Medical University. As for the finalising the date of examination, which is currently proposed for July 20, Bhullar said, it would be decided Tuesday.
