It was a blind shot that hit the bull’s eye. “I took a calculated risk when I accepted the role of a blind man and that too for a television serial,but it paid off,” says Sarvar Ahuja,winner of Zee Cine Star ki Khoj,who is currently playing the protagonist’s love interest in Jyoti on NDTVimagine.
“The producer Sanjay Wadhwa is an old friend. Besides that,it was the grit of the character who spreads cheer around despite his handicap that caught my fancy,” continues Sarvar,talking on phone from Mumbai in between shots.
His debut film Khanna & Iyer sunk without a trace,so did Kuchh Khatta Kuchh Meetha and Meri Padosan and his forthcoming film,including Hum Phir Milein Na Mile “produced by a Lucknow-based gentleman” is not exactly creating waves of anticipation. But the TV stint has secured attention.
“A serial with a woman in the eponymous role doesn’t offer much space for other characters,but I am fortunate to be getting optimum footage.
Besides,the character is a role modelindependent as well as dependable despite the handicap,” says the actor with a double-MBA,who quit a corporate management job for a career in histrionics.
He attributes the success of the serial to the taut script and immaculate coordination of a cast so big. Having made a shift from movies to television,he finds himself alone in the industry.
“I haven’t struck friendship among members of the TV fraternity,though there is an offer almost everyday.
The busy schedule of my present commitment doesn’t leave me with time and energy to party,” says the 28-year-old,brought up in Hyderabad,who is open even to Telugu films,provide the offer is good.
For the time being,the blind man continues to make Jyoti see light.
