Family members of Mohammad Akhlaq, who became the victim of a mob lynching in Dadri over suspicion of storing and consuming beef in September, will meet Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday. The family also reiterated that it won’t be returning to their native place.

Akhlaq’s sons — Danish (22) who suffered critical injuries in the attack, and Sartaj, serving with the Indian Air Force — will be accompanying other family members to Lucknow to the meeting.

“We had sought time from the CM and he will be meeting us on December 6. We don’t have any new demands. We are satisfied with what the state government has done for us. We only want to express our thanks to the chief minister,” Sartaj told The Sunday Express.

He emphasised that his family will never return to their native place. “It is a fact we will not be returning to Bisara anymore. My brother Danish is now recovering and condition in the village is not favourable for us to return to our ancestral home,” he said. Akhlaq’s family is currently staying at the IAF Hindon base.

The family had earlier met the CM on October 5 after which the government had raised the compensation amount to Rs 30 lakh to Akhlaq’s immediate family and Rs 5 lakh each to his three brothers, along with a flat in Noida to each of the four families. Danish’s medical expenses were also borne by the state.

“We have not got the flats yet but we are sure it will be done soon. There is no point in reminding as it will be done on its own,” Sartaj said.

He also claimed that the delay in the filing of chargesheet in his father’s murder case was because his brother Danish was yet to record his statement before the police. “He (Danish) is now in a position to record his statement which he will do in the next few days. We only want the guilty to be punished. Those who were behind it should not be spared,” he said.
