The police team that escorted convicted Samajwadi Party MLA Amarmani Tripathi from Varanasi Central Jail to Lucknow Jail has been suspended and an inquiry initiated against them. The team had taken over 30 hours to bring him to Lucknow. He was brought to Lucknow on the directions of the Maharajganj court,which had allowed him to attend the proceedings of the ongoing Assembly session.
According to the records available with the Prison Department,Amarmani left the Varanasi Central Jail at 5.45 pm on January 20 and reached the Lucknow Jail on January 22 at 12.05 am, said IG,Prison,Sulkhan Singh. The erring policemen have been identified as Sub-Inspector Chatur Singh,Head Constable Prabhu Narayan Singh,Constables Maya Shankar Yadav,Debi Singh and C Singh.
Additional Superintendent of Police,Varanasi,Deependra Pandey,who is conducting the inquiry said,The policemen were suspended for lapse of duty. I had summoned them to explain why it took so long to reach Lucknow. For verification,I would also go to Lucknow and Varanasi jails for verification. I cannot explain how the matter came to light but when the DIG Varanasi came to know about the lapses made by the cops,he directed me to conduct an inquiry, added Pandey.
According to reports,on January 20,five policemen attached with the Varanasi police lines went to Central Jail to escort Amarmani Tripathi to Lucknow. They brought him to Lucknow in a police van. The next day,Amarmani participated in the Assembly proceeding,which concluded within 15 minutes. However,Amarmani reached the Lucknow district jail at 12.05 am on January 22.
Amarmani Tripathi,MLA from the Lakshmipur constituency in Maharajganj,was lodged in Varanasi Central Jail after being convicted in the murder case of poetess Madhumit Shukla. Along with him,his wife Madhumani and three were also convicted.

An FIR has been registered against four unidentified persons on charges of threatening Nidhi Shukla,the younger sister of poetess Madhumita Shukla,in whose murder case Amarmani Tripathi and others were convicted. I told the police that on January 28,when my younger brother and security guard were not present at home,four youths came and threatened me. They asked me to accompany them as Amarmani,who is presently at his Lawrence Terrace house,wanted to meet me, said Nidhi Shukla. ENS
