Irate policemen allegedly wreaked havoc on the homes of some SP workers in Churman Ka Purva in Chinhat on Saturday night after some locals forcibly freed two men they had arrested from the area.
Rajan Yadav,Neeraj Yadav,Karan Yadav and Avadesh Yadav all SP workers were accused in a criminal case lodged at the Madioan police station in 2009. On August 28,after they failed to appear in court for hearing,non-bailable warrants were issued against them.
On Saturday night,the police conducted raids at their homes and arrested Rajan. According to the SSP office,Avdesh was arrested too.
We were returning to the police station with Rajan,when the other accused and some locals led by Mohan Yadav created a scene and managed to free Rajan,” said Takroi outpost in-charge Virendra Yadav. The women also came out on the road from the houses and supported Mohan Yadav,he added.
According to the locals,that was when the policemen went on a rampage.
They broke my household items and that of four others who are my relatives and neighbour, said Mohan Yadav,denying that he and others were involved in rescuing the arrested men. They broke the sofa and windows and abused the women in my house. The maximum damage was done in my house.
Denying reports that policemen created a ruckus and damaged household goods,Takroi outpost in-charge,SI Virendra Yadav said,The accused are SP workers and have many other cases against them.
Later,the police registered an FIR against Mohan,Rajan,Neeraj,Karan,Avadesh and unidentified locals under various sections of the IPC at the Chinhat police station.
Late on Sunday night,Prithviraj Singh Chauhan,the Inspector of Chinhat police station,who led the team was transferred to the Special Inquiry Cell. It was decided after preliminary inquiries, said DIG Lucknow,Rajeev Krishna.
According to Lucknow DIG office,no one had filed any complaint or met any senior police officer in this regard.
Additional Superintendent of Police,Trans-Gomti,Abdul Hamid,who has been directed to conduct an inquiry into the allegations,said: No one has reported to me about the incident.
Hearing about the incident from locals,Samajwadi Party workers visited the houses of the accused on Sunday.
I have been informed that several policemen entered the houses and damaged goods and furniture, said SP parliamentarian from Mohanlalganj,Sushila Saroj. The families have also alleged that the policemen looted cash and jewellery from the houses.
The party has decided to stage a dharna against police brutality in the city on Monday, said Saroj,who visited the houses alongwith other party workers. She confirmed that Rajan,Neeraj,Karan,Avadesh are SP workers,while Mohan Yadav is a district secretary of the party.
