The Allahabad High Court has allowed an amendment application through which the final result, declared on July 16, in the matter of recruitment of 41,610 constables and firemen in the Uttar Pradesh police has been challenged on various grounds. The entire recruitment process has been challenged in the HC through over a dozen petitions.
A single judge Bench of Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi Tuesday allowed the amendment application in the petition filed by Arvind Chikara and two others, through their counsel Vijay Gautam. The court has fixed September 24 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
“In Chikara’s petition, we had challenged the results of the preliminary examinations. However, as the matter was still being heard, the final results were declared on July 16. Through the amendment application, we have challenged the final results also,” said Gautam.
The petitioners have contended that there were several lacunae in the results declared, besides arbitrariness. “For instance, in one case, an Other Backward Class candidate scored much above the lowest cut-off marks, but was declared non-selected. When he protested, his marks were reduced to lower than the cut-off marks within an hour. The written paper was of 300 marks and the physical endurance test (PET) was of 100 marks. But at no stage, the marks obtained by the candidate in the PET were declared separately. Also, there are many issues related to application of rules of reservation,” said Gautam.
In another bunch of petition filed by Pawan Upadhyay, the main written examination has been challenged on various grounds. Besides, over 10 more petitions are being heard by the HC regarding the recruitment process.
Earlier, use of whitener in answersheets had led to a controversy, following which more than 6,000-odd candidates were removed from the main examination list of successful candidates. Subsequently, however, another allegation was made that the number of posts were tinkered with without observing transparency.
The recruitment process of 41,610 constables in the civil police and firemen had started through an advertisement on May 14, 2013. The written examination was held on December 14, 2014. The Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, which conducts these examinations, have been maintaining that there were no anomalies.
