After going soft on Samajwadi Party government for past one-and-a-half years in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress has now asked its leaders and spokespersons to start targeting Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on the issue of misgovernance. The instructions have come at a time, when the state government is facing flak for its inept handling of Muzaffarnagar violence and is busy in damage-control exercise. The leaders have also been asked to ensure that more and more workers are brought on social media,to counter both the ruling government and the BJP. However,in their attack on SP Government, leaders have been asked choose their words carefully. According to sources, party has asked its leaders to demand that Akhilesh government should step down but avoid making statement demanding Presidents rule in the state. We have been asked to attack Samajwadi Party government everyday on the issues of misgovernance, especially on failure to maintain law and order, and mishandling of communal tension in Muzaffarnagar, said a senior party leader. He said that six Union ministers from the state, who have been allotted 12 districts each, have been asked to follow the same guidelines during their visits to districts. According to sources, instructions came during the weekend and partys state president Nirmal Khatri took the lead on Sunday by asking SP government to step down, blaming it for the Muzaffarnagar violence. Then,Youth Congress was asked to gherao the Vidhan Sabha on the deteriorating law and order on Monday. On the same lines,Congress today demanded a White paper with details of those who have lost their lives during riots, those who have been injured, effect on the economy of the region and also details of the action taken against those found guilty of riots. Intelligence reports have suggested involvement of a senior SP leader in inciting violence in Muzaffarnagar. We want the government to come out with a white paper (on riots), said UPCC spokesperson,Dwijendra Tripathi. Meanwhile, the state leadership has also been asked to undertake a training exercise on war- footing to train cadre on social media. For this,a workshop has been organised by the party in Lucknow on Friday, where about 200 workers from 20 districts of central UP would be trained on using social media by senior party leaders from Delhi. The selection exercise for workers, who would attend the workshop has already begun and district units have been asked to send curriculum vitae of around 10 workers from each district. Those well versed with internet, having an e-mail and Facebook or Twitter account would be given preference. The other two dates, which have been fixed for workshops are September 28 in Bareli and September 29 in Agra.
